Wet Flies & Soft Hackles
Traditional Wet Flies & Soft Hackles are fished with a downstream or down and quartering across presentation and the flies are swung with a tight line through likely looking lies. This most likely imitates hatching insects rising to the surface. If you know an aging fisherman this is probably at least one of the ways, if not THE way, that they fish. Even though it is overlooked, this tactic is still effective and can produce big fish. Soft hackle flies also make great nymphs with lots of added movement when fished with a dead drift.
